Our services

Below is a list of our common procedures. You can click on any title to show or hide more information.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations protect your pet from a variety of infectious diseases which can be potentially life-threatening.

Puppies require two vaccinations at 8 and 10 weeks of age. A week after this, they are allowed out into public places and to socialise with other animals.

Kittens require two vaccinations at 9 and 12 weeks of age.

Thereafter, we recommend yearly vaccinations for all pets to maintain this immunity. All vaccination appointments with a vet include a full clinical examination. This allows us to identify any underlying problems that could have developed in the last 12 months and answer any of your concerns or queries.

Rabbits should be vaccinated against myxomatosis every 6 months and against Viral haemorrhagic disease (VHD) every year. These vaccinations need to administered separately two weeks apart.

Nurse clinics

We have a dedicated team of registered veterinary nurses who run nurse clinic’s daily. They can give advice on preventative care for your pets. Please contact the AMC team for information regarding the current availability of nursing clinics.

Neutering

We recommend neutering of pets that you do not intend to breed from. This is for a number of reasons including avoiding unwanted pregnancies, preventing some behavioural tendencies and reducing the risk of developing certain types of cancers in later life.

WE RECOMMEND THIS FROM 6 MONTHS OF AGE

Micro-chipping

If your pet should become lost, involved in an accident, or stolen, a microchip will enable people to readily identify them and reunite you.

A microchip is a small implant the size of a grain of rice, which is injected under the skin of your pet’s neck. Once in place the animal is unaware of its presence. Occasionally they migrate under the skin but are still readily readable. Microchips contain a bar code specific to that chip which is registered to a national database along with your contact details. Most vets and animal welfare organisations have microchip scanners which when passed over the pet will pick up that bar code number.

Puppy classes

Puppy classes are held on the first Tuesday of every month. It is a fun way to help socialise your puppy and also to meet our nursing team. We discuss all aspects of puppy care that is required during the first year of your puppy’s life. There is also plenty of play time and fun for all.

Pet passport and Exports certificate

We have a qualified Local Veterinary Inspector (LVI) who is able to issue documentation for The Pets Travel Scheme (PETS). Please contact the practice for further information.

Electrocardiography

We are able to perform electrocardiograms to monitor your pet’s heart electrical activity.

Radiography

We have the facilities to take and interpret radiographic images. Radiographs are a vital diagnostic tool in the investigation of disease and also in the screening of healthy animals.

Ultrasound

We have ultrasound equipment to enable more detailed investigations into problems such as heart disease, abdominal disease and pregnancy diagnostic.

Blood pressure monitoring

We are able to monitor your pet’s blood pressure. This is particularly important for our senior pets, and those with specific conditions such as kidney disease and hyperthyroidism.

Our practice laboratory

We have the facilities to run in-house blood test and urine tests. This allows us to obtain rapid results to assist in your pets care. We also use an external laboratory to enable us to gain more in depth diagnostic profiles.

Soft tissue surgery

Our fully equipped theatre is used daily for a variety of surgical procedures. Every anaesthetic performed is closely monitored by qualified staff, using the safest anaesthesias and protocols.

Dental Referral services

Paul Hobson, owner of the Animal Medical Centre visits us monthly to perform referral dentistry.

Every month we have a specialist ultrasonographer who visits the practice to perform advanced cardiac and abdominal ultrasounds.
